preliminary task 1- research and planning

For my first preliminary task I wanted to create an album cover. The album I chose is called "INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY" by the band Waterparks. The album fits in the pop-punk, alternative rock and electronic rock genres. I had an idea for what I wanted to do for the photoshoot, so I started to look on Pinterest for more inspiration.

This is the album cover. I knew I wanted to incorporate red as the main colour, and play around with some white and/or blue accents. For the actual photoshoot, I planned to take the photos in my hallway, with me being the model. I have a light that projects a circular form in different colours based on the settings that I plan to use.

For the actual styling, I planned to style my hair inspired by 70's punk liberty spikes. I like that in these images, the models have their bangs out, I think it adds a nice contrast to the heavy spikes. I've never done this hairstyle before, so I will watch a couple tutorials and maybe have my mom help me.

For the makeup, I wanted to go for a black and red colour scheme, loosely inspired by gothic makeup. I found these reference photos that I like, but I will see exactly what I do for the photoshoot. For clothes, I have a thrifted vintage black and red blazer that I think will look great. I will pair it with a black t shirt and a lot of necklaces. I will also wear rings and black nail polish in case my hands are visible. As for pants, they won't really be seen because I want it to be a portrait style photo, but I will just wear some black pants. I normally dress in a more alternative style, so thankfully I have all the things necessary for the photos.
As for the style of photos, I really like this high contrast black and red vibe. I think it looks a little creepy and weird, which fits well with the edgy-grungy style of music.

For props, I don't really plan on using any, but I will take a few of the photos with my electric guitar to see how that looks. The album features a lot of interesting guitar parts, so it would fit in well.
For fonts, if i don't find a font that I like, I will draw one myself in Procreate. I plan to edit everything in Procreate anyway, because it's the platform I'm most comfortable in.
