research & planning - mood board

I made this mood board with how I visualise the music video that I want to make.
But first, for context, the band Twenty one Pilots is known for their upbeat instrumentals with sad and dark lyrics. I love the contrast that those two elements create, I feel like it makes the lyrics stand out even more. In the case of the song Redecorate however, the lyrics are sad and dark but the instrumental is also quite sad and moody. So I thought I could recreate that "contrast" with having the visuals be colourful.
This also works in the context of the whole album that I will make the digipack around, called "Scaled and Icy". Sonically, redecorate is very different from most of the songs from the album, and the band also chose to go for a more colourful "aesthetic". My colour palette that can be seen at the bottom of the mood board is similar to the one on the album cover and the visual identity of the album, the specific shades I chose are just a little darker and brighter.

As you can see, I chose these photos from pinterest that I think fit the vibe visually for what I have planned. I will go more in detail in future posts, but I plan to film most of the video inside my house. I will play around with with different light colours, like I did in the preliminary task where I made an album cover. I will try to play around with the shutter speed if I have that as an option on my camera and if I manage to have access to one I would love to have scenes where I have images I drew projected on my face. I know that I could achieve that in post with an overlay, but I think adding this more analog element will add more "texture" visually.

As for fonts, for the album title in the digi pack and as a visual font in the music video, I want to draw a font inspired by this kind of script. I love hand drawing fonts digitally, I think it adds a more personal touch and I can customise it however I like. Promotional materials related to this album also used more of a decorative font and I would like to put my own spin on it. I just want to make sure that I adjust the letters so that it looks good but is still easily readable.

As for the rest of the digi pack, I will use a more "basic" font to work along the titles. I think the font "Baskerville" works well with the script, because it has that more "classy" feel while still being quite simple.
For reference, this is the original cover of the album Scaled and Icy. I will most likely use a photo I will take myself of something that I think represents the album as a whole.
